Hello Mr. Brayvo,
Thank you for contacting The Henry Ford. The Henry Ford is accredited by the American Association of Museums, an independent, non-profit, educational institution. The materials – objects, documents, business records, photographs, ephemera, and more - housed within the Benson Ford Research Center (BFRC) contain an open treasury of research, historical expertise and unparalleled collections documenting significant economic, technological, cultural, and social events of the American experience.
While we have more than a million photographs in our collections, a very small fraction are available for selection online. Attached is the object report for the Dymaxion House with thumbnails of all images readily available. To order images you find on the report, you will need to use our Photograph Order Form and Use Agreement, which is available here:
http://www.thehenryford.org/pdf/photo.pdf Please be sure to include the photo ID# for each image.
Please see the Photograph Order Form and Use Agreement for a description of our fees. Fees are based on use, as indicated on the Fee Schedule. Please let us know if you have any problems downloading the form from our website. We will be happy to mail or fax you a copy.
We accept payment in US currency via a US Bank check or credit card. If you are paying by check, make it out to "The Henry Ford" and mail it to us directly: Benson Ford Research Center, 20900 Oakwood Blvd., Dearborn, MI 48124. If paying by credit card, you can fax the info to us at 313-982-6244.
Standard turn-around time for reply, from receipt of payment, is two-four weeks.
You can view the Dymaxion House as part of paid admission to Henry Ford Museum. However you cannot go beyond the barriers. Should you feel a need to go beyond the barriers that would be considered part of our Special Access Program. The Special Access program is a fee based service provided by the BFRC which applies to a closer examination of any artifact beyond visitor access. A minimum of two weeks notice, an agenda of your project (along with equipment to be used) and what your intentions are upon completion of the project are required before access permission can be granted. The Special Access Program is available Monday through Friday and you can submit requests to us at

7. Dymaxion House Building Box –Types of documents include affidavits, clippings, correspondence, family histories, general histories and research notes, inventories, maps, oral histories, and sometimes photographs. In some cases extensive interpretive guides used to help presenters offer visitors a robust background on the structure are included. The Greenfield Village Buildings records collection is organized alphabetically by building name. The records are updated as new information becomes available through research, and records of new building additions as well as reinstallations are sought.
The original drawings are part of the Buckminster Fuller Institute collection, now in the holdings of Stanford University in California. A reasonable understanding of the nature of these drawings can be found in the two volume set: The Artifacts of R. Buckminster Fuller: a comprehensive collection of his designs and drawings / edited with description by James Ward. ISBN: 0824050827.
As part of the restoration process of the house, The Henry Ford produced a set of “as built” drawings to document the restored object now on display in the museum. These were produced by hand. Since this was a HABS (Historic American Buildings Survey) project, the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. also has a set of the drawings. Some changes were made for the LC versions.
Here is what is in our collection:
Set 1: 12 Measurement sketches, 18” x 24”
Set 2: 8 drawings, 24” x 36”
Set 2 includes:
Photographs and Prototype Sketch
Foundation Plan, Central Footing Plan, Central Footing and Mast Details Elevation
Cage Plan, Cage Details, Carlin/Gore Plan, Deck Details
Elevation 1, Elevation 2, Elevation 3, Floor Plan

Oversize photocopies (Black & White) are $15 per drawing plus a $35 service fee (we have to take them out to be copied) plus shipping. We have scanned versions of the drawings. For personal use, high resolution scans would be $30.00 per image or $15 per image for low resolution. The following is a link to our forms for reproduction, should you decide to proceed with an order:
http://www.thehenryford.org/research/se ... forms.aspx
We do not know what the Library of Congress charges for the same drawings.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have further questions or if we can be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Benson Ford Research Center

Dear Henry Ford museum curators!
We are an international community of developers dome homes.
Now we conduct an educational research of project "Dymaxion
House" (
http://www.hfmgv.org/museum/dymaxion.aspx).
We are very interested in photos of the mount inclined rods
or cables working in tension in the horizontal and vertical
working on compression. If this is possible - we will be
very happy to get it!
We can make a PR for HF Museum in the environment of
domebuilders and organize the trip for a group of our
teachers and students to your Museum.
With respect and hope for cooperation,
Pavel Brayvo (coordinator of the community, "Domesworld")
